The BNSF Rotary Snowplough

Image

This beastly machine is used in Canada and northern America to shovel snow that’s fallen on the railroad tracks. They use large circular blades to churn through formidable piles of snow, which then gets blown far away from the area after being cleared from the tracks. A truly terrifying sight to behold!

The Avtoros Shaman 8×8

Image

The name of this vehicle is significant: the word “Shaman” has always been associated with something unknown and mysterious. Shamans were designed to protect people from bad luck and to be agents on the roads of life. The Avtoros Shaman is an all-terrain vehicle powered by an Iveco F1C 3.0-liter turbo diesel engine, which is designed to protect humans (like these caravans) during crisis. It’s loaded with a 6-speed manual gearbox and has three different steering systems!

The ARKTOS Evacuation Craft

Image

Before 2007, you got your boat trapped in the arctic and that was it, nothing could rescue you. But that was before someone at ARKTOS came up with the idea of turning a lifeboat into a tank. It’s capable of evacuating over 50 people in temperatures below -100°F, pushing through ice-rubble fields and shear-zone ice.

The Soviet Aerosani

Image

These classic snowmobiles were used by the Soviets during WWII for communication, reconnaissance missions and light raids in the deep northern snow. The Soviets also had Aerosani cars which they used for lighter work, like delivering mail, providing emergency medical response, and border patrol. Industrious lot, those Soviets.

The Foremost Terra Bus

Image

With all-wheel drive – that’s 12 wheels, 7 feet in diameter and 6 feet across – the Terra Bus is truly the boss of the Antarctic, providing airport shuttle for up to 56 passengers. Snow, watch out!
