As the name suggests, larvae of soldier ants fed on mescal plant, are cooked with vegetables and served hot. The texture of this dish, originally from Laos, is likened to that of rice and the taste, a wee bit nutty.

This popular Alaskan food is prepared after the heads of Salmon are buried in what are referred to as 'fermentation pits,' placed in wooden barrels and left to marinate for a few weeks before being consumed.

Akutaq or Eskimo ice cream, from Alaska, may sound a little misleading. This ice cream is prepared with snow, berries, fish, seal oil and reindeer fat.

From Scotland comes Haggis, a dish made from sheep’s stomach. The stomach is packed with onions, oatmeal and the sheep’s liver, lungs and heart. It's then cooked for three hours and served.
