Why I Believe In Dating More Than Relationships

All of us, at some point or another, have gotten our hearts broken, haven’t we? Do you remember that horrible feeling of heart ache? What did it feel like to you? I don’t know about you, but I am just a mess when it comes to dealing with heartbreaks.

There’s endless drama, sulking and constant flashbacks to the positive memories that end up making the whole process even more difficult. But while heartbreaks can be difficult to deal with, and they do take a long time to heal, they definitely make you stronger as well.

Though, it’s important to keep in mind that multiple heartbreaks can affect our self-esteem and make us doubt our own worth.

Relationships in the 21st Century have become a difficult task and trust me, all those people who manage to maintain them for years are the real heroes. It’s a full time job where you constantly have to put in efforts, which probably explains why relationships are so unsuccessful these days as somewhere in this competitive world, we don’t believe in putting in efforts. No wonder than that casual dating has started becoming the new norm.

Let me tell you a story to make you understand this a bit better. Before I first fell in love, I was against the idea of casual dating. I mean, why would you go out with a person you’re not completely into? Isn’t that wasting time? But eventually, I realised that dealing with heartbreak consumes a lot more time than casual dating ever could.

In casual dating, you don’t spend months being passive and finding ways to occupy your mind after a break up. Also in casual dating, you’re required to put in a lot less efforts. It’s totally a win-win situation.

Dating is fun and healthy. There are no expectations involved and, therefore, there are no disappointments either. You don’t have to deal with the emotional drama that accompanies most relationships and as soon as things start getting a little complicated, you can leave without any regrets.

Ever since my second heartbreak, I’ve used my ‘no-to-relationships’ stance as a defense mechanism and it’s really helped me protect myself from any further damage. Additionally, dating can teach you different life experiences as well, but in a completely different way. And while society might not approve of it, you’ll learn to not give damn.

One of the best things about dating is that the other person becomes your best friend, someone you can share everything with because there’s no space for insecurity or jealousy. You get everything you need in just one person and since there’s no stability, your happiness doesn’t depend on them either.

You learn to love yourself and place yourself above all, because at the end of the day, only you’re left with yourself. Prioritizing what is best for you is important, and while relationships bring in the burden of another person, dating is just about you and yourself.
